WOODWORKING
As well as painting I dabble in woodworking. Specifically I build rustic farm-style dining tables, coffee tables, desks, beds, entertainment consoles, clocks and other items. With dining tables I only build the table and bench. I don't build chairs. What many have done is picked up used chairs at a garage sale or purchased contrasting chairs from IKEA. My basic charge is to take the cost of materials and double it (depending on time and complexity) which means a dining table and single bench will be about $400 with square legs or about $800 with turned legs (see below). If you are interested send me an email.

September 2024 - I had a bunch of scrap left over from the patio furniture so I fitted a bunch of different size pieces into kind of a unique coffee table.
August 2024 - Just completed another project for same people who I built the bedroom suite for. This was much more challenging and at sometimes frustrating. Way more pieces. Each chair had about 24 pieces. The sofa had the same number but they were longer across. Lots of sanding and staining in awkward areas. Next time I would sand all the wood first, then stain, apply finish and then cut. I would only have to touch up the cut ends then. All in all they area happy. It looks good and I'm glad I'm done.
August 2024 -This was a rather lengthy build with a rustic king size bed and two nightstands. The bed had a box spring and mattress so it was somewhat higher than other beds and needed a lot of support. The night tables were somewhat challenging and at times frustrating getting everything aligned as best I could. The customer is happy. This is rustic....not made from press board and perfect. The stain is Flagstone.
July 2024 - Just finished this rustic barn door cabinet with china cabinet on top. This is first of this kind of build. Upper portion was somewhat challenging but customer is very happy and that is what matters. Note: photo shows upper portion darker....it isn't. Just the way the photo was taken.
July 2023 - Small rustic table and two benches for farmhouse
May 2023 - Built this queen rustic bed a year ago and finally got a couple of photos of it set up.
September 25, 2022 - I had lots of scrap pieces of wood from all my summer projects to used them to built a definitely rustic looking coffee table and two end tables. They are not perfect but I achieved the look I wanted. You can buy similar from Wayfair made from "engineered wood in China" for about $700.00. I sold my for $150. I've sold at least five of these rustic farmhouse style coffee tables.
August 18, 2022 - Just completed another toy box. This time with name carved on the front with CNC machine. $150 SOLD. Note that Amazon has a smaller toy box made from "engineered wood" for about the same price.
August 15, 2022
Rustic entertainment console with sliding barn doors. Will post some better photos when it is in its new home all dressed up. $150 SOLD

July 12 2022 - Children's toy box - $140 SOLD
Great toy box with two soft close hinges. Can be built in any colour combination you want. I can also have your child's name engraved on the front. A "cheap" version of this is available at Amazon for $140 and is basically a piece of junk. These are solid and well built.

June 2022 - Husky Farmhouse Table with Bench and Computer Desk
Husky Farmhouse Table is 72" x 36" x 30"
I have built several of these in the past but this is the first with turned legs which are somewhat more expensive than 4 x 4 square legs. The photo isn't the greatest as I had to take it in my garage. I couldn't "stage" it inside the house as it is somewhat heavy. Materials were $650. Sold for $800.
The computer desk is built from laminated Acacia wood. It is 40" x 24" x 30" with trapezoidal metal legs and finished with Tung Oil. The cost of the metal legs was $200 and I am selling for $200. Computer not included! Contact me if interested.

October 12, 2021 - Small Kitchen Table
Just finished this for a former student. She has a small area in her kitchen and just wanted a table (4' x 2') and two small benches. Photo was just taken in my kitchen.

August 15, 2021 - Square Picnic Table
Not quite as complicated as my octagonal table (see below) but seats four adults comfortably. Not the greatest photo as I had to take the photo in my garage. I'll post one once it is at its new home. SOLD

Bench is 48" x 16" x 18"H and chairs are 27"W x 27"D x 37"H(back). Seat is 18"H and 20" x 20". CLICK ON IMAGES FOR LARGER VIEW.

June 12, 2021 - Tables
Just finished the dark brown (Kona) and white tables for a friend. She has matching dining table with two benches, a desk and two book shelves all in the same basic design. Note the cat likes the shelf! Coffee table is 36" X 36" x 18" and side table is 18" x 24" x 30"(H). CLICK ON IMAGES FOR LARGER VIEW.

May 29, 2021 - Octagonal Picnic Table - SOLD
Just finished this massive table. Seats 8 adults. It is about 7' wide at the bottom and quite heavy. Considering the price of lumber this cost me about $400 to build. I should have built it last year. Will sell at cost! I need to get it outside for a better photograph.

May 12, 2021 - Large clock built from Alder wood 20" x 20" - high torque motor and large hands. $45 SOLD
UNIQUE END TABLES (AUCTION ITEM) - These metal framed tables started with an incredibly "tacky" faux alligator hide top made from chip board. I replaced with some 2" x 6" spruce to give the top a dimension of about 19 1/2" x 21". I added a piece of metal bar along each side to keep the boards from warping. To finish I applied two coats of Worn Navy stain, topped with two diluted coats of teal acrylic paint and then selectively sanded with 80 grit sandpaper to reveal some of the darker stain underneath and some of the raw wood. Truly unique items. For those of you in the Edmonton area these will be up for auction at a fundraiser for the Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation. The auction has been postponed so check the website for more information and updates.
STORAGE CONSOLE (SOLD) - 30"(H) x 19.5(D) x 46"(L) - I built this from all the scraps end of boards I had from my projects this summer. Works in a closet or along a wall. Shelves will easily hold storage baskets. It was sold unfinished so customer can do their own thing.
RUSTIC QUEEN BED & TWO DRAWER NIGHTSTAND (SOLD) - This one was identical to the one I built early in the summer but the top of the headboard and foot board were stained. I will post a better photograph once it is in its new home and all dressed up.
CHILD'S LOFT BED (SOLD) - Just about finished this child's loft bed. It has been a pretty simple build but lots of cutting and sanding. Will support a single/twin mattress 39" x 75". Room underneath for another bed eventually, desk or just a playhouse area. Customer is going to paint the bed. Additional photo shows what the finished product looks like. Plans from ana-white.com
ENTERTAINMENT CONSOLE (SOLD) - Just finished this rather lengthy project. 72"(L) x 36"(H) x 18"(W) with two sliding barn doors. This is the fourth item I have built for this client (see queen bed and night tables below). I really like the rustic finish. The entire cabinet is first stained a dark brown and then given two thinned coats of a light grey paint (thinned so it is easier to sand). Then a lot of creative sanding to reveal the stained and raw wood underneath. I followed that up with three coats of matte Varathane. The back is covered with a 1/8" MDF board which is white on the inside. This isn't the best photo because it is still in my garage awaiting pickup. I will post a better photo once it is in its home.

NARROW CONSOLE TABLE & COFFEE TABLE (SOLD)
I was "playing around" with a new colour technique. Teal with a couple of shades of brown. Not for everyone but you might have a corner of your house that needs some colour. The coffee table is 58"(L) x 23"(W) x 18"(H). The entry console table is 37"(L) x 12.5"(W) x 30"(H).

LEGO TABLES
Just finished a couple of these for my neighbour. 46" x 46" x 18" lego tables. Only problem is that they are a little pricey. The grey lego tiles (15" x 15") cost about $18.00 each and you need nine per table for 46" x 46". Many people just take an old coffee table and glue them to the top and that way you can get by with six.

RUSTIC FARMHOUSE STYLE DINING TABLE (SOLD)
Just finished up a rustic, farmhouse dining table. 32.5" (W) x 72" (L) x 30" (H). Made from some reclaimed barn timbers that were about 50 years old. Table is $250. I've also got a matching coffee table for $50. And yes, I'm basically giving them away. I obviously don't ship these but if you are in the Edmonton area you can easily pick up. This is a relatively easy build. If you would like one contact me and let me know the size.

QUEEN SIZE RUSTIC BED WITH NIGHT TABLES
Finally finished building a farm style rustic double platform bed with two night tables. This was a lengthy project and my most complex build to date. The staining and painting to get the antique look was very time consuming. I first stained entire bed dark brown and then applied two coats of a diluted grey paint (50:50 water to paint). It is diluted so it can be sanded more easily. Once dry I carefully sanded in spots to allow the dark brown underneath to show up. Finally finished up with three coats of semi-gloss varathane. The two night tables were then built to match the bed. SOLD.

CAMPER STYLE PLAYHOUSE
Camper playhouse I just finished at my son's home. Fun project but a little challenging building the curved ends. Still need to build the door and put in the windows. I purchased the plans for this from Paul's Playhouses. He has some amazing playhouses. Take a look.

DISCLAIMER
Please understand that my products are made out of natural and real wood. This means that the pieces could potentially crack, shrink, or bow in certain areas over time. This is not necessarily typical or common. However, as with all real wood pieces, it is definitely a possibility.
I take every precaution to prevent this when building as best that I can. Having said that, it is impossible to guarantee this won't happen as wood is an organic material and is influenced by the environment.
While I have yet to have anyone report to me that they have experienced these sorts of issues with our pieces, I want to make it very clear that the potential is always there. I believe that a big part of what makes rustic furniture beautiful lies with each piece's own unique variances and imperfections, which can include cracks, knots, bowing, and gaps. Also, different batches of wood, (which come from different trees) will vary in how it accepts stain. This means that even though I may use the same stain as another piece, it may not come out exactly the same colour wise. In fact it won’t!
No finished piece is ever an exact replica of another and that is the beauty of it!
I have never had a complaint about the quality of any of the items. If excessive changes occur they can usually be repaired.
